You try clearing the Kentico cache and doing a hard refresh of the page?

Hi,
The CMS.Folder page is just a container page type - what do you mean you are redirected to the root? Could you please describe all the steps you did in more details? I am not sure what you have done and what is the actual vs. expected behavior.

SO, you have just moved the page up or down in the content tree? What search do you mean? If you mean smart search, what is the index setup? Is this page/folder covered in the allowed content?

How can I change the parent node for a given folder and see the change in the content tree?

Try the following:

  1. Click on root element in the tree
  2. Click on listing
  3. Select the type folder (or the type you looking for)
  4. Check checkbox show all levels (not on the picture)
  5. put search word
  6. click search
