Email alert when page reaches it's "Publish To" date

Rebecca Thibault asked on April 13, 2015 20:20

We have some pages that link to events that happen regularly. Once the most recent event happens, the page needs to be re-linked to the next one. Is there a way to get an email alert when the page reaches it's publish to date so I know when to go in and change the link?

Rebecca, are you using workflow? There is a possibility to configure sending of email notification whenever page has been archived. I'm not sure this will work for your particular case, but potentially might.

We're not using any sort of workflow. I tried adding that on, but it seems it doesn't consider it archived when it reaches it's publish to date.

Rebecca, the basic workflow doesn't allow you to add steps between publish and archive, but the Advanced one do. You can add "Send e-mail" step in between or after archive.

If you're looking for Archive specifically, you could create a global event handler (documents and workflow) to do your checking for you. This way it's in one spot and happens anytime a document is updated.

To make it even more dynamic, you could then create some Custom Settings that say which classes (page types) you want to check this for and what email template to use.

The think is, when it reaches it's "Publish to" date, it doesn't consider it archived. It just puts it in an unpublished state.
