Submit For Approval Button - No Option for Comments

Larry Wildey asked on September 11, 2015 20:40

I have several users editing content in the Administration site and some of them have the option to add comments when submitting changes and others do not. I do not see an obvious difference but something is off between the different users. Anyone know what or how the option to add comments is setup/controlled?

There could be a chance that particular page is not submitted to workflow. Which in that case should be a button to push it to workflow.

The other thing could be that maybe the other particular users aren't required to submit for approval. You can find out this info in the actual workflow application.

Another thing to check is whether the users have the same roles, as this could cause differences in the UI Personalisation and/or Permissions modules.

There are possibly a few other areas to check, are they using the same browsers?

Brenden, I don't see anything in the workflow stating who it affects. The workflow is a basic publishing workflow and the Scope is set to the root of the site. I do have a role set for the approvers but nothing else in the workflow seems to let me define roles/users.

Ilesh, The difference between the users that I know of is that the user with access to the comments is also in the Role that is the approver of the workflow. It seems odd that the approver would add comments and not the submitter though so I ignored this. I can look through the UI personalization again to see if something is setup different but if you know where this feature is in the settings that would be helpful.

David,

The option is missing for several of us that edit the site. Nothing happens when we click the ... and I don't see anything yet to disable/enable this commenting feature.

Thanks,

So we noticed something odd today. One of our users that did not previously have access to the comments option got it to work on a page out of the blue and one of the users that had previously submitted comments mentioned that the last time he tried they did not work.

Is the comment function enabled when only certain parts/features of the page are changed or should it be available for all changes that require publishing? I assume that if the publishing button appears then the changes made require publishing and therfore may warrant a comment but maybe that is not how the web parts are coded.

Thanks,
