Minor upgrades and expired license

Sylvain C. asked on October 26, 2022 14:58

Hi,

Our Kentico 13 maintenance license expired few weeks ago. Unfortunately, this type of license does not exist anymore and we won't be able to renew it due to the change of licensing model.

When the license expired, we were using the hotfix 13.0.79. According to the page: https://www.kentico.com/end-user-license-agreement#upgrades, it seems that I should be able to apply the latest hotfixes since I am authorized to use the major version.

Am I correct? I don't want to break everything or lose access by applying these hotfixes.

Thank you.

At this moment you can still apply the hotfixes. But this may change in the future.

Sylvain,

I'd suggest contacting sales@kentico.com or your Partner Manager and seeing what they can do to upgrade or convert that license. In most cases, they will work with existing customers to get them moved over to the new licensing model (as long as they are not on the FREE version). Going without security patches or hotfixes is NOT a good move forward for any Kentico Customer.

@Brenden-kehren Thank you. I would have liked renewing our license. However we were made aware one month before the expiration date that our only option was to switch to the subscription model.

We are a scientific, non-profit organization and we have developed our website for many years. The point is that we cannot lose the access to our website if in few years time we can not afford to pay the renewal of the subscription license. The price for the license has increased quite drastically lately and it is not sure that we could bear it by that time.

I love Kentico and I was perfectly fine with the perpetual/maintenance licenses but the change of licensing model and the fact that we had a very short timeframe to make a decision with no proposed alternative option, forced us to this situation...

Sylvain,

Feel free to reach out to me as we often work with folks like yourself in situations like this. We can help you come up with a viable solution whether it's through us or directly with Kentico. We've managed to negotiate some pretty nice upgrade paths for customers like yourself.
