[Kentico 8] How to create a new localization pack?

Victor Hugo Garcia asked on July 8, 2014 10:26

Hello friends,

I was wondering how to create a new localization pack. Currently the ones are not updated and generate problems. so I would like to create one from scratch.

Any suggestions or documentation to know here to go?

Thanks in advance

When you say the ones are not updated and generate problems, which ones are you talking about? Base Kentico ? If you come across any issues with resource strings/values, if you know what the key is you can override it by adding a new key in the Localization application and adding your value.

sorry, forgot to mention. I was talking about the downloadable packages from here in Kentico devnet site.

I was looking for the spanish one and it says: Compatible with 5.5R2 and since I need one compatible with v8, that's why I was looking for some documentation for v8.

However, I think I just found it under: /CMSResources folder I just copied the file CMS.resx and renamed it to CMS.es-mx.resx, this solved my issue when I was in localization and selected culture: Spanish - Mexico.

Thanks in advance

If you create a new culture in the Localization application it will do the same thing but in the database vs. the file system. The file system .resx is the fall back, the database will override any of the file system keys. The benefit of the UI is of course you can edit it within the UI vs. the file system or Visual Studio.

Hello Victor,

it would be also great when you create a localization pack for some language to share it with other users, so feel free to send it to us, even when it's not translated completely. I believe that somebody else can find it useful too :) Feel free to contact us directly anytime via e-mail: support@kentico.com.

Best regards, Martin

Brenden: I'm actually doing that, however to add spanish language I had to create the RESX for spanish otherwise the admin area shows an alert saying that I cannot use that culture until a localization pack be in place in the project files. So, it is working good now as I mentioned before.

Martin: I'll for sure share it with the Kentico team once I get it almost complete, so this can be helpful for other users.

Thank you all
