What does the "Attachment search settings" do in the smart search results web part? does this actually look at document attachments?

Hello Raymond, Could you please provide us with a complete settings of your Smart Search index? Especially the Index tab on the Edit page of Smart Search?

Check your smart search index and rebuild it. See if this helps. Could also check the doc types search tab to ensure they are set properly.
