Search Index Rebuild

Brendan McKenzie asked on September 4, 2014 02:33

I have an issue with my Smart Search index. It keep sporadically resetting back to empty. I make no changes to the CMS after rebuilding the search index, then a few minutes later the index is empty. After performing a rebuild of the index it's full of the documents (~175). Manually rebuilding the index is not an option.

What version are you using? Where is your site hosted? It could simply be a permissions issue in the App_Data/Modules/SmartSearch directory causing the problem. Also check to ensure your batch size is as small as possible. This will help with performance.

I had the exact same issue, for whatever reason, and it was a permissions issue.

I've changed the permissions to allow access for everyone to the App_Data and still the index vanishes.

Hi Brendan,

What happens with index files when the index gets corrupted? Can they still be found in ~/App_Data/CMSModules/SmartSearch/your index folder or are they deleted from this location as well? Aren't you hosting your site on Microsoft Azure or using an external storage by any chance?

Have you tried to check Event log or maybe also Windows Event Viewer for any potential errors related to Smart Search?
