PDFs not being downloaded

Please review the above screenshot. I am trying to track pdf downloads. As far as I can tell I have set this up correctly, however I can't seem to get the event of downloading a PDF into my activities report.

  1. I added pdf to the Sitemanger -> Settings -> Online Marketing -> Contact Management -> Activities -> Track Files...
  2. I added a link to a PDF in my media library via an inline widget on the page tab.
  3. I reviewed the user's activity in the on-line marketing section of the CMSDesk. There was activity for getting TO the page, but unfortunately not the actual downloading of the PDF.

Media library files (images, pdf, doc, etc.) are not tracked. If you look at your screenshot where it says "PDF is in the list" it states to the left of the textbox "Track file downloads (cms.file) for these extensions". This means you have to add them to the content tree as cms.file doc types.

Is this going to happen in the future? A client of mine has hundreds of downloadable content files in the media library, purchased the EMS on the premise that they could track downloads, and now is upset to learn this.

If this is not going to happen in the future, do you have any suggestions? I'm happy to write some C# code or a webservice to make this work if necessary, but would like to get the official take on this before I begin.

I did upload binaries as cms.file. (e.g. http://acceptatie2.crow.nl/document2/permanente-verkeerseducatie.aspx)

And I have the settings set that download are tracked as activity. (I even added aspx as extension to be sure)

However I do not see the activity added to my contact.

I also cannot automatically fill a contact group based on the activity.

any ideas? Thanks.
