We're looking to move our intranet over to MVC with Kentico 13. Where can i find some good information on building widgets for the page builder?

Have you been through any of the training for v13? That would probably be your best bet to see what's changed and how to do what you're looking for. Otherwise, I'd start here with the Page Builder documentation. If you have an option, I'd highly recommend starting version 13 on .NET Core and NOT MVC5.

I'd also recommend checking out this site to determine how you want to build your content. While Page Builder is awesome, you want to make sure you're creating reusable content and not just a bunch of widgets that accept rich text based on your design.

Thanks for the info, Is there a big reason to go .net core over mvc 5? The reason we are considering 5 is that our current server situation doesn't support .net core.

This is a few years old but explains why Xperience is going the way it's going. Also note, .NET Core is the future of .NET so if your server(s) aren't supporting it now, you may want to consider looking into the future to see how you might support it in the future.
