Monitor bounced emails

Kentico User asked on April 26, 2017 22:43

I have enabled bounced email settings in my site. Monitor bounced emails is checked, pop3 settings are entered and bounced email address is added.

Doing the above, does kentico send an email to the bounced email address when it cannot delivery mail?

On this documentation, https://docs.kentico.com/k9/configuring-kentico/managing-sites/configuring-settings-for-sites/settings-on-line-marketing/settings-email-marketing Bounced Email Address is defined as "Sets the address to which bounced emails are sent when the delivery of a campaign email to a subscriber fails. If set, this address is used in the From field of campaign emails." But, my email campaign sender email address is also set. So which one does it use?

Also, we noticed that sometimes the emails are not sent right away. Is there some kind of a delay?

Thank you,

"Kentico User", by default, Kentico will use the email queue AND batch process emails. So if you're sending out 1000 emails to subscribers, it will:

  1. When you click send in the newsletter, it will process the newsletter emails,
  2. Then it will place all the processed emails in the email queue,
  3. Lastly, it will batch process them based on your settings

To answer your question regarding the "From" email, typically when there are more specific properties in a module, they will override what is in the Settings. So in this case (I've not tested it) hypothetically, the From email address in the campaign email will be used over the settings value.

Hi "Kentico User" :)

When you enable bouncing emails detection in Kentico, the "bounced email address" will be used as a "FROM" property of the sent emails and the "Sender email address" that you set in the Email marketing application will be moved to "REPLY-TO" property of the email. So, if someone receives the email correctly and decides to reply, they will reply to a correct email address (REPLY-TO). But if the email cannot be delivered, it will be sent back to the "FROM" email address.

Hi Brenden,

Regarding these two things

Then it will place all the processed emails in the email queue, Lastly, it will batch process them based on your settings

Does kentico create a task for this or will the emails be visible in the email queue under configuration?

How long is the wait usually?

Thank you

ah I see the batch size is 50. Does it send 50 right away after sending the first 50 or does it wait?

Regarding the email queue, you need to configure this in Settings>System>Emails. I believe Kentico processes the email queue every 5 minutes the scheduled task is set for. Yes, you should see the emails flowing into the queue as long as the queue is enabled.

When we use "Draft email" option does it work the same way? Do those emails also get batched or are they sent right away if only one email address is used?

Thank you,

Hi Brenden,

Do the draft emails go out right away?

Thank you,
