Managing Newsletter Subscriptions

Dave Royce asked on October 15, 2014 17:46

We are currently working on a newsletter and have run into a bit of a snag. The site that we have created requires a login in order to view the content, however, we do not want the user to have access to the admin interface so they are all set to global instead of specific to the site. We have a newsletter that all of the users need to be subscribed to. When you go to add users to the newsletter subscription, however, you can only add users that are specific to the site. After trying several routes, I am left with a few questions:

  1. Is there a way to add global users to the newsletter subscription, not just users of the specific site?
  2. If that isn't possible and the users must be added to the site, is there a way to block admin area access, particularly the "Edit page" icon that appears on the main site when logged in (I figured out how to hide everything within that toolbar, but I would like it to not be visible altogether)?
  3. Is there another way to go about this that I am not aware of?

Dave,

A few questions to better understand what you are asking.

In answer to your first question, I am actually not sure, but someone from Kentico can probably answer that

In answer to your second, When you say you want to block admin access for the newsletter, are you saying you want to have an admin that can manage subscribers, but not use the administrative interface? Or are you saying for your users to view the login protected they are also getting edit page permissions as well?

If its the first you could do one of a couple of things. If you have UI Personalization you could set it so the user only has access to the Newsletter Module under UI Personalization > CMS > Administration > On-line Marketing > Newsletters OR you could build a custom form to give the user access to the manage subscribers.

If its the second need, then its a permission issue. You can have content secured behind a login where the user doesn't have admin privileges. I would check the permissions you are giving the user and the permissions on the page. You can read more here: https://docs.kentico.com/display/K8/Configuring+permissions

Not sure if this helped, but some more clarification might allow us to help out more

That actually pointed me in the right direction on the second part so thank you for that. I am still looking for an easier way to work the subscriptions, so hopefully someone from Kentico can answer that. Thanks again!

Hi Dave,

Newsletters are specific for a site and Global users cannot be subscribed (so cannot Global roles).

I am also a little bit confused about your actual scenario, however, if you do not want somebody to have access to the Administration interface, only to the live site, this is what the Privilege level "none" is used for.
