License Limitation with Kentico 7.0.32

Jim Piller asked on January 15, 2016 15:30

Hey Guys,

So here is my issue. I just inherited a site that was created by someone else, another development firm actually. The version of Kentico is 7.0.32 and we purchased a Base license for 7.x. That being said, it seems that the Base license doesn't include a blog, however the site contains a blog. So when I navigate to the Content section in CMS Desk, I can't see any content and I am getting the license limitation issue.

After checking the event log, it basically says its b/c the blog is there, so I would think that I could just delete the blog posts and be on my way...however, the blog posts can't be deleted b/c of the license limitation.

I don't want to do this, but could I go into the database itself and delete the blog post records and maybe that would solve the issue?

Any help that you can offer would be much appreciated!!!

Thanks,

Jim P.

Hi,
You may need to restart the application and clear the cache so the application knows about your changes in the DB. The better way would be sending us (support@kentico.com) a message with the domain name and we can generate e.g. 7-day key for you with higher edition, so you can delete the objects that are exceeding the limits in the correct way. Feel free to refer to this thread in your email message.

So now I understand the root cause of the issue. The development firm created the blog posts each as their own blog, not as blog post objects. The base license only supports one blog, so that's why I'm getting the license limitation error.

Sorry to hear you experienced this Jim. Unfortunately this happens with firms who don't know how to properly utilize Kentico. Best of luck with your site, hopefully you're looking into upgrading to v9!

Eventually upgrading will be in the plan, but for now, I'm just trying to get the site up and running. So I deleted the blog records out of the database, but Kentico still thinks there are blogs in the site. I deleted records from CMS_Document and CMS_Attachment. Any idea where else I need to delete from?

AWESOME!!! Clearing the cache and restarting the application worked! I realize modifying the database directly is really not a good idea, but I was kind of stuck at this point, and I need to get this up and running sooner rather than later!

Thanks,

Jim P.

Jim,

You will also need to look in the cms_tree table as well. If you have versioning and/or workflow enabled you'll have other tables to review. As you mentioned modifying the database directly is not the way to go. I'd suggest reverting back and getting that key Juraj stated he'd give you and then just logging in and deleting them there. Then you know it won't be causing problems later with orphaned records when you upgrade.
