Kentico Search not display anything

Hi All,

I deleted the files in the App_Data\CMSModules\SmartSearch\Pages Module folders under smart Searches and reindexed the search engine however my search engine would still not show up. Any ideas? I also read if I deleted them the reindex them, it would appear again. But nothing is there in the folder now.

Problem solved. Not sure how but someone changed the permissions on the \App_Data\CMSModules\SmartSearch folder without telling us, and the SmartSearch couldn't update the index files. I changed the permissions, and now it's working. Thanks for your help though,

What version and hotfix are you using? Are you using pages or crawler index? What is the index setup? What is the environment setup? (on-premise, Azure, Amazon, ...)

Could you provide a bit more info on your set up please?

  • What version of Kentico are you using?
  • Is it portal engine, MVC, MVC .Net Core?
  • Where your search query doesn't work? In CMS admin or on frontend website?
  • When you rebuild index, what status does it show you? And is number of documents indexed more than 0?

Here's the response.

What version of Kentico are you using? v12.0.42 Is it portal engine, MVC, MVC .Net Core? MVC Where your search query doesn't work? In CMS admin or on frontend website? Front end website. When you rebuild index, what status does it show you? And is number of documents indexed more than 0? Here's the response from the server.

Indexed items:2021 Index file size:2.2 MB

What is the index setup? Not sure what you mean by this?

What is the environment setup? (on-premise, Azure, Amazon, ...)

We are using an on-premise platform.

Hi Kyle,

Could you please check the contents of \App_Data\CMSModules\SmartSearch folders for both CMS admin and MVC sites? You can also open the content of the index with an external tool such as Luke.

It could be that your CMS admin index is not synchronizing back to MVC site. Kentico relies on Web Farms mechanism to synchronize these indexes. It may be worth checking whether Web Farms shows you both servers with green status, and there are no stuck tasks in Web Farms.

Hi Dmitry, it looks like the search works fine in preview in the smart search module. However the public search engine is not working properly.
