Import forum posts

Quang Lai asked on September 23, 2016 21:41

I'm using the Site Export interface to generate a zip file of the forums, and the respective forum posts (verified when I check the files within the zip). However, when I import, it is not importing the forum posts, and there is no checkbox anywhere to suggest "Import forum data". The forum counts (e.g. 5 threads, 8 posts) are updated properly, but going into the forums (and database), the old posts are showing.

This is using Kentico 8.2

Edit 1: I tried deleting an existing forum, and then doing the import again, but that didn't import the posts either. It recreated the forum, and with the right counts once again, but now the forum simply has no threads.

Edit 2: I tried exporting via the "..." menu stack as well, and same deal. Will import the forum, but not the forum posts.

I contacted Kentico support, and they've identified this as a bug (on 8.2.48 and 9) and will be fixing it at some point.

Did you expand the section in the import setup to see if there are any checkboxes to import the actual posts? I believe there are some checkboxes to look for specifically for the forum imports.

Hi Brendan, yes I checked the root (All Objects), and also the Forums node, and there was no checkbox for "Import Forum posts" as I was expecting. When I exported, there was the checkbox option for "Export forum posts" though.

When you exported your site did you actually export the site or just the global objects? When you import there is an option to import the forum posts, individually.

Yes I actually exported the site. In your import screen, I'm fairly sure "Tester" is the forum itself, not an individual forum post. And per your screen, there is no "Import forum posts" checkbox.

Edit: I tried deleting an existing forum, and then doing the import again, but that didn't import the posts either. It recreated the forum, and with the right counts once again, but now the forum simply has no threads.

Do you have forum post groups? If so, make sure they are being imported/exported too.

Yes, the "Tester" is an actual post and it has to be checked to import it. You could run a query against the database to see if the posts are actually in the database. Then check the forum site ID and maybe it's not the same ID or there is some missing link between the actual forum and the posts.

I'm wondering if it's an UserId issue, at least, this is my best guess so far. Looking at the forum post export files, the UserIds for a post will match the UserId I find in the User export files. However, when I query the database (after importing), the UserIds are not the same; I can find the users via the UserName or UserGuid fields, but the UserId values are all different (it being an Identity field). Although Kentico should be using the UserGuid field instead?
