How to check if VPN or proxy is being used

I need to check if the visitor is using a vpn or a proxy on the site. Is it possible?

I don't know of a way to do this. If it were possible, then VPN's wouldn't be used.

There are (paid) services that can help you identify proxy or VPN clients. It will help try to detect the free VPN services I guess... But wouldn't bet on it to be 100% coverage. I have never used such a service, but you can just Google for VPN detection.

Also think about what you are hoping to achieve, perhaps there are other measures you can take.
