How to apply workflows to pages

Michael D asked on January 17, 2019 15:57

I've read Kentico's page on 'Applying workflows to pages' but I don't see the 'Apply workflow' link in step 2. I believe I have the Manage workflow permission assigned in the content module.

  1. In the Pages application, navigate to the page that you want to apply a workflow on.
  2. Click Apply workflow. A dialog box opens.

It might help to show a screen shot of the Manage workflow permission so I can really confirm I'm doing that part right. Thanks!

I heard back from our dev:

Typically when an interface element or tab is missing like that it means there is a problem with the macro signatures:

  1. Go to System > Macros > Signatures.

  2. Select both boxes there and click Update macro signatures and wait for the dialog to complete.

  3. Fully reload the page editing the workflow.

Does the page already have a workflow assigned to it? If you click on the Properties tab of the page, do you see Workflow and Versioning under the drop down?

Also, what is your privilege on the site? Editor or admin?

Yes, I do see them.

I assume I would be allowed to change a workflow or remove one from the Page itself.

Thank you for your help.

If you see them, that means there is already a workflow been assign to the page. So you don't see the button "apply workflow" which only appears when there is no workflow been assigned to a page.

If you need to change the workflow, you will have to go to Workflow application, and change the workflow scope to exclude or include a page/section (https://docs.kentico.com/k10/managing-website-content/configuring-the-environment-for-content-editors/configuring-workflows/applying-workflows-to-pages#Applyingworkflowstopages-Definingworkflowscopes)

How can I change the workflow scope? From the info on the page you linked, there should be a scope tab but I don't see one. Thanks

what version are you using? You are diffidently missing a scope tab on the left. Are you a global admin?

We're using Kentico 10 and yes, my privilege level is Global Admin. We had an external company initially build our site - is there a way to hide the tab or is this just an error happening?

Is it missing for all the sample workflows? There is way to hide it for none admin users, but if you are global admin, you should see everything. Can you check Event Log application to see if there are any error logged for workflow page UI?

Otherwise, you would have to go through our support team and may need to provide a copy of your database for troubleshoot.

Yes, I see 2 errors with "workflow" in the Description field - though I can't understand them. I'll send to our support team and see what they say. Thanks!
