Error syncing using the staging service

We are getting this error whenever we try to sync using the staging service:

7/1/2014 8:11:10 PM production Synchronization client error: Exception occurred: The security token could not be authenticated or authorized ---> WSE563: The computed password digest doesn't match that of the incoming username token.

I have checked and re-checked to make sure that I was using the same username/password combination on the source and target. I also checked the settings in the database and see that the password hash is the same.

Sounds as if you aren't using straight username/password but X509 certificate. Make sure the target server has the valid selection and your client (or source) has username/password vs. X509 selected as well.
