Converting a container page type

Is there any way that a container page type be converted to a page type that can have custom fields?

I don't believe so, would be a nice feature though! Now that I say that, you could compare the exported XML definition with that of an actual page type and see what you find. I'd guess it would be more work to make that modification than to just manually recreate it though.

Reason why I ask is because we have a bunch of pages created with this container page type, and recreating them using the new pagetype would take hours.

What would be another nice feature though, is the ability to change a page from 1 page type to another. Or does it already exist?

You can use the import toolkit and map a sql table to a Kentico object. So that might work but there aren't any other ways that I know of out of the box.
