Changing CMS folder name

Yowaraj Chhetri asked on October 24, 2018 02:20

Hi,

Is it fine to change the default web application folder name from CMS to any other name as shown in the picture below.

cms

Will it encounter any problems later on during upgrades, hotfixes, etc...

Thank you in advance

There are utilities Kentico has which look specifically for the CMS directory so I'd advise NOT to change it. Any particular reason you need/want to change it?

I dont have any requirements, however want to clarify as when I am using KIM to register an instance which had its web app folder changed from CMS to abc.web, it gave me error "specified directory does not contain a kentico installation". I need to revert the changes back now. Thank you Brenden.

You can't change the directory name if you want to use the KIM. If you are okay applying hotfixes and updates manually, then go ahead - it won't affect the application at all.

However, if you want to continue to use the KIM for updates, you can still change the project (CMSApp.csproj) name so that it shows up differently in your solution in Visual Studio.

I have tested renaming the project file and applying hotfixes (in Kentico 12) and there are no issues.
