AB Testing Not Available on All Page Types? Specifically Navigation Items.

Russell Arden asked on May 14, 2021 18:50

we have enabled a/b testing, and if i'm on a "regular" page I can drop down the analytics menu and get to a/b tests.

However, if I go to the navigation element, which Kentico still treats like a page (e.g. "You need to check out the page for editing"), the analytics menu is not there, so no ability to a/b test. If you use the a/b test widget and navigate to that area, it says "no pages to display".

How can I test a navigation element since it doesn't live in a traditional page?

Am I safe in assuming you don't have a presentation layer for those page types, only a controller? If so, this is why. If you're only building out a nav structure with those page types and you don't have a visible page behind that page type (only a link), then how would you even test someone going to that page? Your A/B test would be on the page behind the link not, the navigation item itself.

Thanks Brenden, we'd test one button against another in the top right of our nav, but that seems impossible since the header/men is not a "page". Seems like Kentico a/b testing is just not set up for this and we'd need optimizely or something similar.
