Kentico is ready for World IPv6 Launch, are you?

   —
We are permanently enabling IPv6 for our websites and services by the date of the World IPv6 Launch: 06/06/2012
The explosion in the number of people, devices, and Web services on the Internet has created the need for a new Internet addressing system, one to replace the current Internet Protocol version 4 (IPv4) which is nearly depleted. By 06/06/2012, the new addressing system, IPv6, will be enabled providing about 340 trillion trillion trillion addresses compared to the 4 billion addresses that IPv4 offered.

As well as accommodating internet growth for the future, IPv6 brings more efficient routing and packet processing, directed data flows, simplified network configuration and improvements in security.

We at Kentico have already successfully tested our websites and services for IPv6 and have decided to participate in the World IPv6 Launch; by permanently enabling IPv6, we taking part in the global transition to the new internet protocol.

How to enable IPv6 for your Kentico CMS website

The process of enabling IPV6 for your Kentico-powered website is really smooth. Just follow these 4 steps to make your website IPv6 ready:
  1. Get IPv6 address from your ISP (Internet Service Provider) and assign it to your webserver.

  2. Add a host AAAA resource record to your DNS zone. Specific steps depend on your DNS hosting, but generally you can add it the same way you do for A (IPv4) records. For example if your website is "www.example.com", you should add the following DNS entry to the DNS zone of example.com:
    "www.example.com AAAA 2a00:d00:ff:131:94:228:131:131"

  3. In IIS, add an IPv6 binding to your site: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/cc731692%28v=ws.10%29.aspx

  4. You’re done!
