Kentico CMS 5.5R2 beta got released …

The development of Kentico CMS 5.5R2 is finishing and we are just fixing some minor issues. So, let’s look at new features in this upcoming release.


The main focus of this release is on the Intranet environment and features we can use inside our companies. With this release, we bring the following features.


1)     Project Management

A tool which helps us manage projects and tasks within our company. For more information, look at the following blog post: Project Management in Kentico CMS 5.5. R2

2)     Document Libraries

Using Document Libraries, we can manage all documents on the live site. We can add/edit/delete documents and their permissions directly from the website without any access to the administration UI.

With Document Libraries, we will also introduce “Versioning without workflow”. That means every time we save document changes, a new document version can be created and published. Technically, this is possible by configuring a workflow which will only have one workflow step - the PUBLISHED step.

3)     WebDAV support

Using WebDAV, we can very easily modify any supported document directly on the website. That means we do not have to save the document on our hard drive, edit it and upload it back. We just click edit, the document opens directly on the client (e.g. in MS Word) and when we save it, it’s saved directly on the server.

4)     Workgoups

An enhancement of the current Groups module . Among others, it includes dedicated Project management within the context of each group.


5)     Sharepoint 2010 support

With the release of 5.5R2, we can connect our website with MOSS 2007 and MOSS 2010 via Sharepoint web parts.


6)     Intranet Solution

Intranet Portal is a brand new starter site which we can take and start to use as our new Intranet Solution based on Kentico CMS 5.5R2. This new starter site offers all new 5.5R2 features, Social Networking features and more. We can find there:

-          Fully prepared Intranet Solution – just take it and use it – including three graphics design schemas (Red, Green, Blue)

-          Support for Company Departments  - each department is represented as sub-portal

-          Support for Workgroups – each workgroup is represented as sub-portal

-          Projects management

-          Document libraries

-          My Dashboard – personalized home page for each portal user

-          Employees list and search

-          Multi-cultural intranet sites

-          Media libraries, wikis, blogs, forums, news, calendar, …..


-          … and all necessary operations are based on User Contributions, which allows us to do all necessary operations on the live site without logging on to the administration UI.

Kentico CMS 5.5R2 is a release which will contain all hotfixes available for version 5.5 at the moment of the release. It’s why we call it R2 (Release two) of Kentico CMS 5.5.




The final release of Kentico CMS 5.5R2 is scheduled for the middle of December, 2010. Stay tuned!
