Visual alert or notification for subscribed/new content on intranet

Hi all,

I was wondering if it was possible to show an alert icon (or an 'alert' dropdown) on an intranet portal that is specific to you and would tell you if something has changed/been updated:

Scenario:

Say there is a section on the intranet which has a page type of 'events'.

I'd like to be notified of any new ones added so i click something that says 'get alerts'.

Now instead of getting a notification email (which i know is possible) I'd like to see a little icon (with number) on my homepage indicating that there is a new one.

Ideally it'd have an icon which you could click and it'd show the event(s).

This is quite common on websites that need you to sign in (spotify, treehouse etc..) it's normally a bell icon with a little number.

I just wanted to know if anyone has done this sort of thing, or how/if it could be done?

Thanks in advance

Jon

Create a webpart or use a custom query webpart that will query your data and simply display out the HTML as you need in that repeater.

I can't help with the implementation, but I certainly would appreciate that functionality.
