View a gallery page via a Hierarchical viewer

Alan Isaacson asked on May 23, 2016 16:50

I have (thanks to this Q & A site and a few other people) managed to setup a scenario whereby my Homepage dynamically calls in and orders the content within it from all sub pages directly below it. I can now deliver video, text and images or an assortment of these as I choose. However I have created a page that holds a media file data source that works correctly on the child page but doesn't deliver any content when placed on the homepage. I have based the structure on all of the pages as the same structure. I have also checked allowed page types for the transformations and contents and they look ok to me.

When in Design or Page mode for the page I do get a broken page icon. As always any help appreciated.

Hi Alan,

Two places we can quickly check:-

  1. Whether your Content path is relative or absolute. This will ensure your it isn't sending empty content for this scenario.

  2. Are you somewhere restricting it to not appear on home page (using page type restrictions)?.

Could you please provide your webpart settings screen shot?

Cheers, Chetan

Thanks for the answer. The images attached should show all of the relevant parts.

The data source within the original sub page.Image Text

The basic repeater on the original sub-page. Image Text

The design tab on the homepage showing the 'broken icon' where the gallery should appear and the tree for the site. Image Text

The Hierarchical Viewer top part. Image Text

The Hierarchical Viewer bottom part. Image Text

The path is blank to allow to allow the inclusion of all sub-pages. The page type filter then selects which are allowed and does have the Gallery page listed. The transformation used for the pages are the same.

Hopefully these screenshots include all of the settings that should make a difference.

If you try to open in a normal browser outside Kentico Admin are you getting some error on the browser console?

This icon usually depicts 404 error. Can you do a quick check or provide me with the url?

Thanks, Chetan

Hi Chetan, I use my host file to resolve www.moononastick1.co.uk to 178.238.133.114 The homepage resolves as http://www.moononastick1.co.uk/home.aspx and the sub-page with the gallery is http://www.moononastick1.co.uk/home/our-pictures.aspx

Forgive the appearance and content as this is a non live site that I am preparing as a template/default for a collection of other sites.

Hi Alan,

May you help me with 2-3 things.

  1. Can you set the path to /% or {0}/% (if you wan to load all children under current path). First try with /% to identify that its a path problem.

  2. You web part has a property which says "Hide if no record found". Can you uncheck that and see if that shows "No record" message?

  3. Coming back to your broken link, can you see in chrome console that there is no 404 error message?

Thanks, Chetan

Hi Chetan, 1. I have tried the path as both options and it appears exactly the same as if let blank. 2. I have Unchecked the option and still get nothing different on the page. 3. Looking in Chrome there is nothing that appears to show a 404 error. The only failures look like they are related to chrome-extension://pkedcjkdefgpdelpbcmbmeomcjbeemfm/cast_sender.js. I have removed the video sub-pages and that error disappears, but the original issue remains.

Hi Chetan, Did you receive the email with the backup attached? If so, did you manage to investigate?

Thanks in advance Alan
