Using the alternative form of a document type

Petros Giallelis asked on August 12, 2016 14:47

Hi,

In Kentico 7 I've added an alternative form for an existing document type. It just displays a few more fields in the Content editing form of the document.

My question is how do I actually use this alternative form?

The new fields are coming up in the editing form if I give the form one of the special names (update, insert) but other than that I couldn't figure out how else to bring the alternative form up.

My expectation was to be able to go in the CMS Desk > Content and on the Form tab (or somewhere on the property tab) of a page of the specific document type to be able to choose the alternative form. What am I missing.

Thank you

Hello,

You can display alternative forms only through the special names (insert, update, newculture, filter) in the CMS Desk. On the live site you can display it by Contributions list web part.

Usage of page type alternative form from the documentation:

Live site - using for example the Contributions list web part (see the User contributions chapter for more details).

In the Pages application to replace the default forms for adding or editing pages (after clicking New or on the page's Form tab).

In the Pages application on the Listing to allow editors to use custom fields of a specific page type when filtering the listing.

Not the answer I was hoping for but thanks for the prompt reply Dawid.

It's just that at the bit that states that "In the Pages application to replace the default forms for adding or editing pages (after clicking New or on the page's Form tab)" is not making it clear that this is only through special names and is creating the impression that there is actually something on the New or Form tabs.
