Typo-tolerance on 'Smart Search Box' web part? (Kentico 11)

Deb Apprille asked on March 28, 2019 16:58

I am using the "typo-tolerant" feature on my search results page and it works great. I would like the same functionality on my smart search box web part (predictive feature) that is in the site-wide header. I have gotten comments from users who dislike having to go to the search page when they can't figure out how to spell something.

Thanks for your help,

-Deb

I see. Not with the out of box web part, because it's not designed for. You would need to create something custom that combines the typo tolerant feature into the predictive searching logic.

Deb, the typo tolerance is the feature of the search result web part. So for example, if you type "coffe" in the search box and that gets passed to the result page in the searchtext=coffe, the search result web part will tolerance search "coffee" and return results.

Hi Rui,

Yes, I understand that if someone clicks through to the search result page that the result will be typo-tolerant. My question is: Can I achieve this in the smart search box with predictive searching?

Best,

Deb

I was afraid of that. That's too bad; I feel that all web parts should leverage that feature, not just the full-page results. Thanks for your answer.

also, predictive search start the search once people start typing. So if visitor can't spell the first 2 or 3 letters of what they are looking for correctly, then predictive results shouldn't be the best option for them to locate something.
