The default MVC application installed with Kentico 12 isn't available

Balaji MKala asked on April 20, 2019 13:08

Hi,

I have installed Kentico 12 with a new MVC Template option but the site isn't loading, giving error "The resource cannot be found". The admin site works fine though.

Could you help me fixing this?

Thanks in advance.

Check out IIS settings - according to the information you've provided (and lack of details) it seems that site is not deployed to IIS or you're using wrong URL :)

Alo, if you have selected a brand new MVC application, not the sample Dancing Goat MVC project, you need to actually create some content in Kentico admin first, then develop some code logic in the MVC app and then the web site will be displayed on the front end. Just like the documentation says at the bottom:
"For new MVC sites, the installation creates a blank project and an empty site, so you need to develop the code and add content before the live site becomes available."

Hi, Thanks for the replies. I have read it too.

In fact, I have followed the tutorial at https://docs.kentico.com/k12tutorial/mvc-development/installing-kentico to every last word, until to https://docs.kentico.com/k12tutorial/mvc-development/adding-content-only-pages-to-the-mvc-site

But the new page doesnt show the controls but not available error.

I am cocnfused of what information is required. How does Kentico assign ports to Admin and MVC website? I restarted my system and I do not seem to have the admin page loading now. Oops. Let me try again. or Probably reinstalling. Do suggest me the logs I should add here for troubleshooting.

Thanks once again.

So, you have the content ready so you need to create the MVC front end logic. Now, please move on in the tutorial to generate the classes and code files to work with them in the MVC application. You will learn everything if you will continue in the tutorial.

The tutorial shows the UI with all the controls on it. But my project shows Not Available error. My question is, does the installation configure the IIS sites too? I do not see them in IIS. or Am I missing something?

If you mean the first screen shot then it is just a sample to show you where to find what controls. Then, the IIS setup depends what option was selected during the installation - all the options are described in the installation documentation.

Yes, I have installed exactly as followed in the documentation.

Anyway, thanks for the replies. I am going to try fresh installation.

Thanks once again.
