Speeding up Export/Import from Azure

Chetan Sharma asked on January 15, 2015 11:13

Hello All,

My team and I are using Kentico 8/Azure as our development model. One thing we have noticed very often is that Import/Export takes ages. Our initial website is a few pages website with few images. The size should not be more than 10-15 MB's. However if I try to take export of the website for some testing purposes it takes around 45 minutes each side.

I am not sure what could be possible reasons of export taking so much time. Most of the time it just freezes.

Any guidance would be helpful Thanks

Have you checked how your virtual disk I/Os are running? I have seen Azure environments get stuck and need a refresh.

Hello Chetan,

Which service tier do you use for your SQL Azure database? I think running a DB with a small DTU could be the most probable reason.

For instance if it is just a Basic DB, you might want to consider scaling up to tiers with more DTUs.

@Virgil Carroll - What's the way to check that?

@Filip Ligač - Do I need to check up with Our infra team to check that?

Hello Chetan,

You can check the Resource monitor on the machine to find out how I/O operations are running.

As for the DB tier, you can find this information on Azure portal so if you do not have access there, please ask your system administrators about that.
