I'm using the out of the box Smart Search Result. I've enabled the "Use Update Panel" Checkbox under the AJAX section. I imagined it would wrap the output of this webpart within an update panel. However going between pages of the search result still involves a full postback. Can the search results be updated via AJAX?
Does your URL have a page number in it? If so then you need to use a postback vs. a URL paging setup. You can change this in the webpart settings.
