Site wide find and replace

Claudette Bentley asked on May 24, 2015 03:30

Is there a way to do a site wide find and replace of text within the pages of a Kentico site? For example a committee on the campus I work is renamed and I have to find any reference to the old name committee name and replace with the new name?

No there is not. There are ways to do it via SQL Server Utilities, but I don't recommend it, unless you know the consequences and what impact it may have on your system, up to and including corruption.

As Charles states, there isn't and using those utilities, not a good idea.

With that being said, depending on how your site was created or setup it may be easier than you think. If your site follows the out of the box recommended way by using Page Types, then you might be able to do a replace in a SQL statement with very little impact because the fields in the Page Types rarely have any dependencies.

Now if your site uses a lot of editable text webparts then that could be a bit harder but it could be done.

Unfortunately, both those options won't get the site 100% complete simply because there are many other places where content can hide but those are the two most common.
