Sounds like you're manually configuring your web farm servers. Any particular reason you're not automatically configuring them? I'd check out the web farm tasks and see how many are in the list. If you see none in the list, manually query the database tables to see if there are some that are orphaned. I'd highly recommend cleaning those up, then adding your server(s) configuration back and restart your instances.
