Every site is setup differently so it would be hard to state exactly where this is. Most likely there isn't a box to uncheck or a setting to switch. You'll have to modify code in the master page or the home page. If they aren't there then you might want to check if by some odd, unfortunate reason they used aspx templates, if they did, you'll have to go to the file system to make that modification.
