PhotoGallery vs Media Library

Eric Garrison asked on June 9, 2017 19:34

I have a site that will have +1000 plus photos in different groupings...maybe 100 groups. What is better to do - PhotoGallery pagetype or use the Media Library Module. I have both looking the way I want, but neither seems to be generating Thumbnails automatically. Some photos do have captions.

Has anyone found that one works better than the other? Of the Kentico sites I have built, most have 10 galleries and 100 photos max.

Kentico V10. Site traffic is only a few hundred per month. Mobile is important. Search on images, not. Most people are just looking.

Take a look at this responsive image setup in v10. It might get you want you need from an image size standpoint.

Regarding thumbnails, I believe there is a checkbox in Settings for this to auto generate thumbnails but I believe it's only for media library files.

Regarding media library or page type, if you need granular security on it and navigation options, then go with a page type. If not and you're simply displaying image galleries with minimal info, then use a media library.

Thank you Brenden. All images don't need security, they will be public.

If you need additional metadata, check out Brian McKeiver's post about doing that too.
