Page Type Folder or maybe grouping of pages

David Pearson asked on December 16, 2014 18:47

I am setting up my site navigation. I would like the top node to load the first node in the tree.

In SiteFinity this was call a page Group. I am looking at grouping all the collection pages under one group called Our Collection.

  • Our Collections -- some collection -- another collection

I tried Folder but this page type does not appear in the Menu.

Thanks David

I found the a solution under the Page Property Navigation. You can set the Menu Actions to redirect to first child.

Hi Roman and thanks Brenden for letting me know about the group drop down, I believe I can use that for my product collection navigation.

David,

Have you tried to use any other document type instead of folder (I'd use Page, or create new one for this particular purpose) and make it inactive menu item, so user can't navigate it, but its children.

Also you might use repeater instead of navigation web part.

Hope this helps.

If using the out of the box Page (cms.menuitem) page type, there is a group dropdown in there you can use to get that simple filter you're looking for. Then in your repeater (or whatever webpart you're using) for the navigation you can set the where clause to MenuItemGroup = 'top' or whatever you selected. You can also set the Maximum nested levels to 1 and that will select the main level and no nested levels.
