Moving from Cultures to Multi-site setup - can content be shared between Sites?

peter kuhn asked on April 3, 2014 09:38

Due to some complex URL requirements, I need to create specific "Sites" for each culture of my website (where we had one site and several cultures). This is easy enough using Export/Import, which is great - but brings up a concern.

My concern is if new content is created on Site #1 (US) - can that easily be duplicated to Site #2 (DE) if needed?

Or in the case of translation - can Site #1's (US) new pages be exported to translate, and imported in Site #2 (DE) as new pages?

Thanks for any help. pete

Hi,

Using the translations - you will have to ensure the documents have the same IDs and names or, edit the XLIFF files to match the other site document data. The obstacle here is, I guess, the culture of the documents - the culture code is one of the identifiers of the document - so, staging or export/import modules won't help between the sites with different cultures. You will have to modify the translations and the xliff files or create custom tool that will transfer the data using the API.
