This documentation should explain why. Your site's code name is responsible for A LOT of import and export functionality as well as other functionality, as you've noticed.
The fix is to either rename the site's code name back OR create a new folder at the root of the website in the file system and copy all the files over. You will also need to manually modify the all the media file records path in the database.
