Kentico | High CPU Usage | Azure

Hello,

I recently noticed that it seems like my application is going haywire after not logging into it for a while. I've done two things that has fixed it - log into Kentico admin & restart the application in Azure.

Architecture:

  • Hosting in Azure Web App (Set to always be on/not fall out of memory)
  • Kentico 9.0 (no patches applied)
  • Using a Separate .NET MVC 5 website to consume Kentico data

Here's what the stats look like. This was over the Thanksgiving holiday. One of our users said they logged in on Thanksgiving (the 23rd), but then the CPU spiked to 100% the next day (the 24th) and stayed like that until I logged in on Monday (the 27th) morning. This drop corresponds exactly with my log in. When this happens, we notice a significant slowdown in the websites using this instance of Kentico. Another thing to note is that there weren't an abnormal amount of requests/calls coming through - in fact, it was much lower due to the holiday.

Any information/insight would be appreciated! Thanks.

Never run your site on a vanilla major version. There was a but in early v9 with the scheduler causing an infinite loop. So my suggestion would be to apply the latest hotfix 9.0.50 or upgrade to v10 to resolve your problem.
