Kentico 9 Redirect to First Child

Simon George asked on April 10, 2017 07:05

We are facing issue while trying to redirect to the first child from the Navigation tab. We have tried using any of the Menu action option but nothing is working. Is it some other settings we are missing here? Also is it something to do with page type we are using?

Are you saying in the navigation the link of the parent doesn't redirect to first child? Assume you setup that correctly in the Navigation properties of the parent. What web part are you using for the navigation? What are you using for transformation? Is the parent and child the same page type of different?

Yes, we have configured from the Menu section to redirect to first child in the navigation property of the parent page. We have done only the configuration in the navigation and not using any web part in the parent page for this. Do we need to use any web part for this? Please note that the parent and child is having two different page type.

Hi Simon, that property is for if you are displaying the links in navigation, the parent will be redirect to first child, not within the Admin UI content tree.

For example, in this website's top navigation, say there is no landing page for DOWNLOAD, so the link to DOWNLOAD will be redirect to its first child (e.g. DOWNLOAD > SOFTWARE).

Thank you for the information Rui Wang. As I understood now that this option will work only when clicking from the navigation menu. Is there any web part I can use that will redirect to another content page if I am directly browsing the parent page?

You don't need any web part for that. If in the Navigation property you checked Redirect to fist child (URL), then when you hit the parent page ULR (e.g. www.mysite.com/about) it should go to first child (e.g. www.mysite.com/about/our_history).

We have checked Redirect to first child in the Navigation property. Now we can see that the when we clicking the link in menu it is going to the first child but when we directly browsing it is still showing the parent page.

For example, Products have child elements like Smartphone, Laptop etc. We have set the Navigation option in the Products page property as given below. Image Text This one is working from navigation menu but if i access the url directly like www.domain.com/products.aspx it is not redirecting to www.domain.com/products/smartphone.aspx

What version of CMS are you on? That doesn't sound like the right behavior.
