Kentico 13 Slow Azure index rebuild

Matthew Butler asked on July 1, 2024 11:15

I have an index for my page type "News" of which there's 60, on a site with 6000 total pages.

I have scoped the index to /News/% on my dell i7 it take 4mins to rebuild, which although feels slow for 60 pages, is significantly faster than in Azure dev environment.

I can see no signs of a bottleneck the DB usage max is 45%, memory spikes at 80%, CPU at 45%.

But the index appears to sit building for over 30mins. I did get it to finish under 5mins on a couple of occasions when I restarted the web app and hit build straightaway.

The admin and client app otherwise seem to function at a reasonable pace.

What are your settings for the page types being indexed? Are you indexing the content, HTML or both? If you're indexing HTML or BOTH, then I'd highly recommend WHY. When you index the HTML or BOTH, the search index has to physically render the page, read the content, and index the content. Per page that can take anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds or more. We had this issue on a site that had a couple thousand product pages that were set to index the HTML output of the page, the rebuild process took almost 8 hours. When we cut it back to content only, it took minutes.

Apologies, I should have updated. Yes it was the fact it was indexing the HTML and the firewall was preventing the admin site from accessing the client site. but rather than erroring it was just stalling.
