I am trying to install a new instance of Kentico 9 on my local host. When it completes and launches in a browser on first load I get the following error message

Installation steps * launch install window from KIM 9.0

  • Select Custom installation
  • Target > Local IIS , Default Website
  • .Net Framework version 4.6
  • Web project type > web application project
  • Database is configured to connect to one on our network (db gets created fine)
  • Components > use the default settings
  • Sample sites > Selected the dancing goat
  • Click Install

Everything seems to work fine until the browser launches and I get the above message. Any idea of what I might be doing wrong?

Looking at the error path, it's looking at the LicenseHelper, so a couple questions.

  1. Is this a Kentico Demo install? Sometimes they have a demo license that's in the web.config's App Settings, and you can try to remove that.
  2. Can you verify that the directory is pointing to the right site, and that site is pointing to the right database? Any other kentico installs?

  1. Its not the demo. I am trying to install a fresh copy of Kentico from the installation manager. I will add license keys when I can actually load the site in a browser.
  2. Yes, correct directory, the db is correct also.

It is a virtual app in the default web site. No other Kentico sites as virtual apps to the default site.

I do have other Kentico sites installed in IIS (6 or 7 of them). These are working fine. I did try to install the site outside of the default web site and got the same error message.

Thanks for the additional information.

Although i know you are probably going for the Web Application vs. Web Site Project, but have you tried doing a Web Site Project and see if you get the same error?

Just trying to eliminate variables, i know Web Site Projects work fine for me, there may be a bug with the Web Project installer.

Yes I have tried both web app and web site project. I think I might uninstall Kentico 9 and the different kentico 9 apps (kentico installation manager) and try again. It is strange as I have used it in the past and it worked fine. Probably a configuration issue with this machine and IIS.

Sounds like a good idea, it is odd it's not working, i haven't run into any issues yet. Good luck!
