How to resize the controls of a form?

I want to modify the width of the input element of the form [Article Type]

I can see the default css is applied on the forms in design mode. Also, suggest me how to change the CSS reference for the forms to be displayed in DESIGN MODE.

In the Page Type, go to Fields and scroll down until you the CSS Styles. You can change these to modify how the field displays.

I tried that too and added styles to the master CSS being used throughout the site but it seems to me that in design mode some default css is referenced.

I typically set the attributes in the .skin file. Easiest place to do this is in the Design and/or the Default App_Themes.
