How to rename the site code name

Chandra Bhattarai asked on April 24, 2022 09:01

I want to rename the site code name in Kentico 13 Core. I followed the following link & as per documentation:

https://docs.xperience.io/configuring-xperience/managing-sites 'When renaming individual sites, we do not recommend changing the Site code name. The code name is used throughout the Xperience folder structure. If you want to rename a site and change its Site code name, you need to manually rename related folders and files in both the administration and MVC live site projects. '

But i didnt saw any site code name inside App Data folder, How can i rename the site code name, any help would be appreciated

I am using Kentico 13.0.62

If it was not present in App_Data, then no physical files were saved yet to the file system. Could should also check other folders as well as the root for the site code name folder - in case you are storing page attachment on disk or if you are using media files, they will be stored based on your settings. Make sure you check both, admin app as well as front end app file systems.

Hi Juraj,

Thank you for the answer. Could you please help to know me more, if i renamed 'sitecodename' directly on site settings edit , then will it work or additional configuration/work needed? Last month i think i did that but the pages were disappeared in the Page application after renamed.

Thanks, Chandra

Well, that's why it is not recommended to change the code names - I do not know your project and do not know what you have set to depend on the code name - it could be something in your front end app code - maybe you are checking the site by the old code name. From Kentico admin point of view, in this case just the file storage folders are using the site code name so the system can find appropriate folder.
