How to import subscribers with custom data

Mark Daly asked on June 8, 2016 19:31

We have an existing list of subscribers (6,7000+) to a newsletter that we want to move from print into a Kentico 8 mailing list. The list includes email address and name but also some other data that Marketing wants included in the system. The import subscribers function only appears to handle email address, first name, and last name. Is there a way to import subscribers to mailing list with custom data?

If you go into Modules>Contact Management, you can add your custom data fields in the Contact management - Contact class. What I do is typically add a category for those custom fields and set visibility on that category based on the current site name. Then since you have a multi-tenancy setup, only that particular site will see them. Just make sure those fields are set as not required. You can create alternate forms with required fields if you need.

Contacts are specific to a site.

I suggest importing them as contacts with those fields mapped to your custom data, then create groups and add groups to the subscriptions vs. just subscribers. If you don't want to create groups, you can at least add contacts to your subscription and still have that custom data.

This is a multi-site install so other sites may be using contacts. I don't see other fields mapped to the contacts but if we map them to our subscribers it seems like it will affect other sites if they wanted to do something similar.
