Folder Path

Julian C. asked on July 16, 2018 16:41

Is there any way to have the Folder not showing up in the URL? For example, I have my site: www.mysite.com/News/Folder1/newsItem1 www.mysite.com/News/Folder1/newsItem2 www.mysite.com/News/Folder1/newsItem3

I just want the Folder1 to be hidden from URL like this: www.mysite.com/News/newsItem1 www.mysite.com/News/newsItem2 www.mysite.com/News/newsItem3

Because visitors can get to the Folder1 page which has nothing to display. BTW, I'm planning to have tons of this Folders. I'm just trying to organize the content tree for editors that's why I'm using Folders. Maybe there are other options to organize the content without affecting/changing the URL?

Thanks all, but looks like choosing a Folder to organize the Content Tree for editors was a bad idea. I ended up creating a custom page type. Now, if visitors find and hit the "Folder" page, I serve them with a list of pages under it, so it is not empty and no redirection needed. Not a perfect solution but looks like there is no other way to organize the pages for editors in the Content Tree with an "invisible" folder.

I guess you can always go to page properties -> URLs and enter your custom path

Thanks Peter, even if you use Custom Path, the Folder still shows in the URL and visitors will still get to the empty Folder page. I will have to use the URL redirection for each folder which I was trying to avoid.

When you change the URL the system automatically still stores the old URL as an alias for compatibility. What you can do is click edit on alias and choose for Alias redirection - redirect the main URL. This way whenever someone hits the old URL he will automatically redirected to a new one.

If the folder is a custom type you could also set the default value of the Menu Actions to "Redirect to First child".
