Exclude a SKU from coupon code

We've issued a coupon code for a product. The product also has a variant, by SKU, that are refurbished versions which we do not wish to allow access to the coupon code. Both variants use the same product name.

Is there an approach, perhaps using a different application (buy x, get y or something else) that'll accomplish this?
