edit from the front end without having on page edit turned on

Is there way through the use of a repeater to have a button that would allow you to edit a document from a list without having on page editing turned on? Would just like an edit but and have it bring up something similar to the form page in the admin

I know I can use the user contribution web part, but that doesn't give me all the information I want the user to see when viewing the list of items.

hope this makes sense

I think I may be able to achieve what I want by linking to this "CMSModules/Content/CMSDesk/Edit/edit.aspx?nodeid=43384&culture=en-US"

Understand what you're looking for but either way they will need to be logged in right? I'd take the controls and webpart and clone them from the User Contribution webpart and get what you need there. I'm not sure you will get things to work properly if you just use the Edit.aspx page. It might throw some errors as it might have other dependencies that would come from a parent frame/page.

the site auto logs through AD so users never see the login screen. I'll post an update on what I was able to get to work.
