Department Metadata Override

Delford Chaffin asked on March 20, 2018 21:51

I have a section of a site set up using the departments functionality with the "Department template path" defined under Site Manager > Settings > Intranet & Collaboration. The template root has its meta data (under Properties > Metadata) set to Inherit...

If I un-check that on one of my "departments" based on that template ...

... it seems to be OK. But when I make any changes under the Form tab and hit Save again, the metadata properties revert to those of the template (i.e. with Inherit checked).

Any thoughts on why this might be happening? Thanks!

This is a page meta data not template. Templates don not have any metadata.

  1. Go to Settings -> Content -> Metadata (don't remember where it was in 7). There: there is a Page title format property. If you uncheck inheritance in your page properties, it makes page title according to the macro in there : by default it is {%prefix%} - {%pagetitle_orelse_name%} .You might have something else there like {%CurrentDocument.DocumentName|(identity)GlobalAdministrator%}

  2. If this is not 1. then you might have document global event handler where on update you do change .DocumentPageTitle property. I would search in the code for 'DocumentPageTitle'

If you're using workflow it could be causing this problem. It could also be a bug in v7 which was resolved with a hot fix or an upgrade.

Does it do this for nodes outside of the departments node?

@Peter - This is a department template, not a page template.

@Brenden - No, other document types elsewhere in the tree are not similarly affected. I'm leaning towards bug and looking into the source code and/or going to create a separate field for these meta data fields as this Kentico version of this site is not long for this world and I don't want to spend too much time on it. Thanks.

This a page template for department. I've checked on default installations for 9 and 11 on Dancing Goat and E-Commerce sites. It is not happening there. I guess you may try to install default 7 with one of examples like E-commerce and see if it happens there. If it does not happen then this is a custom code.
