Delivering email and SMS notifications to subscribers

Sherie Turner asked on May 4, 2015 17:02

I am looking at the out-of-the-box use of Kentico in notifying subscribers to new information that we would be uploading to our site. We are using Kentico 8.0-8.2 and the only information I could find on SMS notification is a post from 2010: link text. This is discussing the possibility of doing so with Kentico 5.0 but I have found nothing newer. When I search the Kentico 8.2 documentation, I find information on sending email notifications so I believe I have enough information to cover that. Within that information, there is a short explanation where you can register the gateway in the system and have it support plain text. What I cannot find is information on how it gets sent and if we need to subscribe to another outside software/service in order to utilize this. Any help you may have on using this would be greatly appreciated.

Out of the box there is not SMS provider integration BUT this doesn't mean it can happen with some configuration and customization. I've done this type of integration with some other clients and taking advantage of Kentico's API and Global events really streamlined the process.

Brenden, Thank you for the insight. Would you recommend ClickATell or something else?

I'd use what works for your business and then integrate it from there. In the end IT won't own any of the SMS "stuff", it's typically Marketing or another business group who does and usually comes out of their budget.

Twilio works fairly well and it seems to be a pretty cheap option. There are tons of them out there.

Thanks. I will research the options and present them to the business.
