Deleting an Editor account causes Media_Files "CreatedBy" and "ModifyBy" to be set to NULL

Craig Smith asked on March 29, 2014 16:38

We had one CMSdesk editor leave and, as the administrator, I deleted her account. However, when other editors tried accessing some files in the Media Library, it would send them to the general error message page.

I investigated and found that the files she had uploaded now had "...CreatedBy..." and "...ModifyBy..." fields set to NULL. I could just use SQL statement and UPDATE the fields with a current editors user ID, however is there to do this via CMSdesk?

From now on, we will only disable the former editor's account! v5.5

Hello Craig,

If I understand you correctly, you are running version 5.5, right? Let me inform you that 5.x versions are not officially supported anymore since the release of Kentico 8.

More information you can find in the blog post of Kentico's CEO: Announcing End of Support of pre-5.0 Versions

I would recommend you also because I'm pretty sure this behavior has been fixed in the latest versions.

Best regards, Martin

Hi Martin,

Thanks for the information. I went ahead and changed the NULL values using an SQL statement when nobody responded right away. I miss the old style forums for devnet, but I guess some people like the new format, just like Windows 8 :).

The article you mentioned is for pre v5.x, so v4.x and below is no longer supported. In any case, I looked at the prices for Kentico 8 and they've definitely went up. Having only two websites and being a not-for-profit, we need to be cost conscious. At the time, we were only allowed to use commerical products, but now that has changed and may need to look into open source CMS packages next year.

Regards, Craig.
