Custom Table Existing Table

David Pearson asked on February 25, 2019 21:55

How is the Database Table Name drop down populated with table names? I am not seeing any table names.

The tables which will be listed in the dropdown will ONLY be tables created outside of Kentico. Meaning if you used the Kentico UI to create the table, it won't work. Simply put, if you used SSMS or straight SQL query to create the table, it will show in the list. The table name cannot exist in the CMS_Class table.

Where are you populating this dropdown from? Your question is pretty general/generic with no specifics.

I am trying to set up a new custom table to link to existing table under Custom tables.

Custom Tables >> New Custom table Check the Use an existing database table. The Database table name does not have any tables listed in the drop down.

I tried this in Kentico 12, 11 and 10: all have the same results. I must be missing something.

What are you hoping to achieve? It sound you want a new table that uses data from an existing table? Why not alter the existing table. If you want a one-time copy it might be better to just clone the whole table and make your changes in the new table.

Thanks Brenden, that makes sense.

David: I will just copy that table to a new table so I can move the management of that data from custom tables, then delete the pages. This will be easier to manage since it is a large amount of pages(record).
